Awareness tour across secondary schools

Protection of personal information in general and identity theft in particular are important issues in today’s modern society where digital technology is omnipresent. In addition, the new

(in French only). It is in this context that a tour of Québec’s secondary schools has been organized to young people between the ages of 14 and 17 on the importance of protecting their personal information in online interactions.

This tour is an initiative of the Minister responsible for Access to Information and the Reform of Democratic Institutions, Rita de Santis. The object of the tour is to invite young people to be vigilant when going online or using online social networking sites. Special emphasis is given to the dangers of identity theft.

In order to effectively convey the message to the intended audience, a person familiar with today’s youth, Nicolas Ouellet, has been selected to be the spokeperson for the school tour. He will be accompanied, from time to time, by the Minister.

Nicolas Ouellet is a prominent Web and TV host, columnist and reporter, appearing on such broadcast channels as ICI Radio-Canada, TVA, Télé-Québec and VRAK. Since VRAK targets primarily a secondary-school audience, his popularity among the students is assured.

It is hoped that at the end of this tour, thousands of young people will have become fully aware of the best practices for protecting personal information and will be in a position to share the information they have acquired.

The tour will include such communication tools as a Les contenus suivants peuvent comporter des obstacles à l’accessibilité. pamphlet (PDF, 2 pages, 109 KB), informative video clips and a Les contenus suivants peuvent comporter des obstacles à l’accessibilité. poster (PDF, 1 page, 148 KB) ensuring that the target group retains the information on the importance of protecting personal information.
